Outfit Details: Chambray Baseball Cap via J.Crew (also love this Biltmore Baseball Hat via Madewell) | Oui Mon Cheri Linen Tee via J.Crew | Striped Linen Tank via Madewell | Purse: H&M | Leggings via GAP | Leather two-strap sandals via Zara

I’ve been eyeing this J.Crew chambray baseball cap for a while. But after months of flipping through Madewell catalogues and seeing countless pins of girls looking chic-as-ever in their it’s whatever hats, it was too much to take – so I took the plunge and joined the team.

Being a member of team cool-girl is pretty sweet. I get to show up wearing leggings, t-shirts and baseball caps and still get to call myself stylish. I’ve even gone up a level in my quest for it’s whatever style – I’m now on the hunt for the perfect pair of wear-out-pajama pants. Cause pajama pants are legit cool-girl shit now. If that’s not incentive enough to hop on this relaxed-trend bandwagon, I don’t know what is.

So go buy up all the linen tees, all the sweat pants, all the birks, all the slouchy, relaxed-fit, soft-texture stuff you can get. Before it’s too late and pants suits make their grand comeback. Hurry – but don’t appear too frantic. That’s so not normcore.

  • Valentine’s Day for All

Valentine’s Day is almost here, once again. And I have to admit – I’m really not a huge fan of this mushy, Hallmark holiday – but not for the reason you may think. The idea of having a day where you treat the one you love with intent and sweetness is wonderful. The part I don’t like is the pressure – OH SO MUCH PRESSURE. Whether you’re getting your loved one a gift, trying to pick out what to wear, trying to ask out a potential Valentine, or trying to avoid questions about your (night-in) plans on Valentine’s Day – it’s all so much build up of expectations that so often comes crashing down.

So this Valentine’s Day, let up on that pressure valve a bit. Having a romantic night in with your sweetheart? Have a first date that happens to fall on V-day? Going out with the girls? Staying in alone for the night? Have fun with it! Relax. And don’t expect perfection from the night – you do not live in a romantic-comedy. You’ll have a better Valentine’s Day if you appreciate your current situation and whatever plans you may have for the night.

And if you need some help getting inspired for the event – no matter what your relationship status may be – check out the inspiration boards below for Valentine’s Day night 2014.

A Notes about Moving Skirts from Summer to Fall

I’d like to take moment to chat about bringing skirts into Fall. I was having a conversation with a (very fashionable) coworker of mine, about how strange it felt/looked to throw on skirts & tights – and how when we got dressed in the morning, we’d always end up changing back into pants. We discussed having an anything-but-pants day during the week to force ourselves to get out of the habit. It’s just when you’ve got bare-legged in skirts all summer, then start pairing them with dark tights – the contrast in style seems a bit uncomfortable (especially if the skirt isn’t a dark color). So with this post – it starts. Skirts with tights. Get ready for it. I’ll be trying to make this Fall my most skirt-lined-season ever.

    What I’m Wearing

I’m not sure what I should call the highlight of this outfit – every piece is my favorite. The statement necklace was a birthday gift from my sister – it’s the J.Crew Archipelago necklace (sold out, but similar here) – and the colors in the necklace inspired me to stick to strictly black & white for the rest of my outfit. My top is an amazing thrift shop find (Hey Macklemore, can we go thrift shopping? Yup, yup, yup, yup) and I call it my typewriter button-down, because it’s got random letters along with faded black stripes. The skirt is courtesy of SimplyBe – it’s a faux leather skirt with a perfectly placed pleat to add only the flattering curves to your figure (and hide away the others…).

  • A Little Mint Belt

j crew inspired chambray denim mint belt asos curve green pencil skirt zara stripes curvy blog 1

I’m obsessed with Pinterest – and this is a pretty obvious fact. And there is a particular pin, from a J.Crew lookbook, that I’ve always been obsessed with. This outfit is my ode to that J.Crew lookbook photo – and though my green skirt isn’t sequins, my chambray button down is from J.Crew and the fun vibe of mixing textures & colors is in my outfit.

The photos were taken by Chelle Ticeson at Kubota Gardens in Seattle – a quaint little place that is great for a walk with friends, or a blog photoshoot (duh).

I’d also like to take a (random) moment to thank everyone for all the positive feedback on my last (emotional girly) post - I got so much positive feedback, and it makes me so happy when the things I write or post affect my readers. Stay gorgeous, you reader you!

About the outfit…my chambray button down is from J.Crew (got this steal on sale, but a similar plus-size and straight-size), the striped peplum top is from Zara (but I love this plus-size one and straight size one). My green pencil skirt is from H&M (old, but they are easy to find!). Shoes are by Matisse (old, but I’m obsessed with these). The neon clutch is also H&M, and my lipstick/lip gloss is a Trish McEvoy Barely Nude + NARS lipgloss combo. And last but certainly not least, my little mint belt is from ASOS Curve (and I’m totally obsessed with belting EVERYTHING with it).
