  • Travel Diary: Dubrovnik, Croatia

seattle blogger goes to croatia dubrovnik photos

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that for the past few weeks I’ve been traveling around Europe. Now that I’m back home in Seattle, I’ve had a few days to sort through photos – all taken on my iPhone 6 – and edit my favorite shots. For my first blog post in this travel diary series, I will share my experience in Croatia.

Simply put: Croatia is too much wonderful. We were in Dubrovnik for about a week and we could have stayed there for a month and still not done everything we wanted. In contrast to the natural beauty of the Adriatic, dotted with over 1,200 Croatian islands, is an ancient stone-walled city that has been impressively preserved and is still in use by the locals. It is like nothing I’ve ever seen.

Dubrovnik had something for everyone – beaches, both busy and hidden, hiking, jet skiing, sailing, kayaking, spas and resorts, expensive restaurants, cheap cafes, and to my surprise, excellent wi-fi. The locals were very friendly, which I was happy to discover, and a little kindness and patience went a long way. The city’s central (and really only) industry is tourism – so they depend on visitors to make a living.

You should 100% go to Croatia. It’s relatively cheap (compare it to places on the coasts of Italy or France) and uniquely beautiful. I will definitely be back to explore the northern coast of Croatia, including Split and surrounding islands.

    Now for the photos. Enjoy!

  • The Most Comfortable Work Outfit Ever

fall fashion style blog in seattle

Outfit Details: Pants: GAP (on sale!) | Linen tee: J.Crew | Blazer: Target, old (similar) | Necklace: Madewell | Chelsea Boots: ASOS

Here on the good ol’ West Coast – the corporate world is very business-casual. In fact, here in Seattle, we’ve gone beyond biz-caz to tech-casual, which basically means as long as your wearing pants and a clean(ish) shirt, you’re good. Sometimes though, it’s nice to put on a blazer and some black pants. It feels professional. And comfortable – especially when my pants feel like PJs, my t-shirt is linen and my blazer is soft and relaxed.

I present to you: the most comfortable work outfit ever, complete with slouchy tee, track pants, flat chelsea boots and a Starbucks Red Cup. Now get out there, throw on some PJs and make shit happen.

  • Play Ball

Outfit Details: Chambray Baseball Cap via J.Crew (also love this Biltmore Baseball Hat via Madewell) | Oui Mon Cheri Linen Tee via J.Crew | Striped Linen Tank via Madewell | Purse: H&M | Leggings via GAP | Leather two-strap sandals via Zara

I’ve been eyeing this J.Crew chambray baseball cap for a while. But after months of flipping through Madewell catalogues and seeing countless pins of girls looking chic-as-ever in their it’s whatever hats, it was too much to take – so I took the plunge and joined the team.

Being a member of team cool-girl is pretty sweet. I get to show up wearing leggings, t-shirts and baseball caps and still get to call myself stylish. I’ve even gone up a level in my quest for it’s whatever style – I’m now on the hunt for the perfect pair of wear-out-pajama pants. Cause pajama pants are legit cool-girl shit now. If that’s not incentive enough to hop on this relaxed-trend bandwagon, I don’t know what is.

So go buy up all the linen tees, all the sweat pants, all the birks, all the slouchy, relaxed-fit, soft-texture stuff you can get. Before it’s too late and pants suits make their grand comeback. Hurry – but don’t appear too frantic. That’s so not normcore.

  • Valentine’s Day for All

Valentine’s Day is almost here, once again. And I have to admit – I’m really not a huge fan of this mushy, Hallmark holiday – but not for the reason you may think. The idea of having a day where you treat the one you love with intent and sweetness is wonderful. The part I don’t like is the pressure – OH SO MUCH PRESSURE. Whether you’re getting your loved one a gift, trying to pick out what to wear, trying to ask out a potential Valentine, or trying to avoid questions about your (night-in) plans on Valentine’s Day – it’s all so much build up of expectations that so often comes crashing down.

So this Valentine’s Day, let up on that pressure valve a bit. Having a romantic night in with your sweetheart? Have a first date that happens to fall on V-day? Going out with the girls? Staying in alone for the night? Have fun with it! Relax. And don’t expect perfection from the night – you do not live in a romantic-comedy. You’ll have a better Valentine’s Day if you appreciate your current situation and whatever plans you may have for the night.

And if you need some help getting inspired for the event – no matter what your relationship status may be – check out the inspiration boards below for Valentine’s Day night 2014.
