The Experience

Sasquatch 2013 was amazing. How could it not have been? When you put good friends, lots-o-beer, incredible musical talent, festival fashion, sun & the Gorge together in a pot and you get AWESOME SOUP.

Mumford & Sons. Arctic Monkeys. Lumineers. Deep Sea Divers. Macklemore. Cake. Vampire Weekend. Edward Sharpe. Imagine Dragons. Empire of the Sun.  ZZ Ward. Sigur Ros. The line-up was nothing short of epic. And my memories…while most of them absolutely ridiculous…will live on. Perhaps I’ll tell some crazy Sasquatch stories to my future great nieces and nephews – I’ll be that cool great aunt – Auntie Nata$ha.

Sasquatch 2014

And now  I hear that for Sasquatch 2014 – they are making it 2 weekends with 2 unique line-ups!  I might as well just devote my life to Sasquatching and give up all my other hopes and dreams. By 2020 maybe Sasquatch will be like Summer camp – 3 months long – and then you die at the end because nothing else in your life could be as awesome as what you experienced there. Ok…maybe I’m being dramatic. But seriously. Sasquatch is the best.

Festival Fashion

And don’t fret my little fashionistas – below you’ll find some of the outfits I ran around in during my 4 day hiatus at the Gorge. Festival fashion is just way too much fun, and next year, I plan on turning up the hippie dial even higher (plus not showering for 4 days just puts you in that natural-dread-forming mood).

But in all seriousness – there were so many adorable, fun outfits! Crop tops paired with cut-off denim and floral headbands were very popular. Even the guys stepped it up for the music festival – sporting graphic tanks, “jorts,” 80s eye-wear and retro sneakers.

All Seattleites know the deal: when the sun comes out you go outside and you get optimistic. The over-abundance of rain and gloom that usually fills the skies here in the Pacific Northwest means that the minute we see bright blue & white fluff above us, we sort of forget anything else is going on. No longer are we bitter, sarcastic Seattelites; we are now sunny, happy, spunky Seattleites ready to melt the “Seattle-freeze” and meet new people.

So…if you want to meet new people in Seattle this weekend, check out a couple events around the area that promise to be a good time! Who knows, you may even run into *this* Seattle fashion blogger, running around town, in a sundress with margarita (on the rocks) in hand!

SAM Remix – Friday at 8pm

The SAM Remix is a rare type of event to find in Seattle – it doesn’t involve hiking, or flannel, or breweries. In fact, at the last SAM Remix event I attended, it felt more like I was transported to NYC’s Brooklyn for the posh opening of a new art gallery. It’s a must-attend event, and includes dancing, DJs, art, music, craft cocktails, girls in pretty dresses, guys in slick slacks and the whos-who of the Seattle social scene. I’ll be there (wearing something I don’t have picked out yet…yikes) – so buy your tickets here (quickly, they sold out last time around). Frolik Rooftop Kitchen & Cocktails – All Weekend

Confession: I haven’t yet been to this place. However I’ve been hearing such amazing things about it that I had to share. On a sunny weekend like this one – a rooftop bar  with delicious cocktails, fun bites, shuffleboard and ping-pong may be the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Happy Hour is from 4pm-10pm, and you can tweet them or like their Facebook page for a bigger scoop on this hot new Seattle gem.

The Georgetown Carnival – Saturday at Noon

Quick warning: Georgetown is a funky Seattle neighborhood. So if you are a straight-laced fellow who doesn’t enjoy biker jackets, clowns, beer (a lot) and craziness – this may not be the event for you. However if you are looking for a good time plus amazing people watching (bonus!), you might want to check out this hip annual festival. You’ll find live music, “power tool racing”, beer gardens, “Dead Baby Bike race” and other random, ridiculous and creepy activities. Check out the carnival website and good luck.

Of course the last thing you could do is try and find me. I’ll be doing things all around Seattle thing weekend, and sometimes I tweet about them. So why not play the best game ever, “Find Natasha this weekend and party with her”? Just a suggestion.

I’m beaming with excitement right now because I get to share with you something I’ve been working on for the last couple months – a newly redesigned The Chic Curve blog! And in case you are already enraptured with the new design and you can’t possibly remember what the blog looked like before today, I did a side-by-side comparison of old and new (above).

If you are interested in why I changed up the look of this Seattle fashion blog, or who helped me along the way (including the amazing new hand-drawn logo) read below; but if you are just looking for the giveaway skip on down to the entry widget!

About the design: Focusing on Content

First off you should know something about me – I’m not actually a graphic designer but I’m obsessed with design. My Pinterest boards are chalk-full of design inspiration, and while I haven’t taken the time to fully immerse myself in some of the tools of the trade, I have an eye and lust for good design. So I was ready to give the Chic Curve a fresh, minimal makeover. No more clunky date boxes or post frames. And I’m hoping that you can tell – the new design is clean, simple and focuses on what matters most: content. Big beautiful photos, light easy-to-read text, and a beautiful hand-drawn logo that ties everything all together is what the new blog is all about.

And I’d like to take a (big) moment to give a (huge) shout-out to the pretty little lady who designed (by hand) the new Chic Curve logo: Andrea Hilliard. She’s an amazing designer and an even better friend – and I always joke about her being my friend who lives the “real life of Pinterest” because everything she touches and owns is adorable. If you are like me – Pinterest has become that secret online affair that you turn to whenever work, life or blogging gets you down. You type the letters into your URL bar, and instantly you are transported to a magical online world full of beautiful photos. Nothing is too expensive or out-of-reach as you gracefully click and pin away all of your hopes, dreams and fantasies. Your boards are your own personal vacation and there are no budgets  or responsibilities to limit the possibilities of imagination and inspiration. Each board is sacred – holding a small piece of your soul – and careful time and consideration goes into the decision to pin each and every picture onto your profile.

And then, just as you are entering a state of ecstasy, you see it; the most awful thing that can show up in a girl’s Pinterest feed: The Ugly Pin.

You don’t know why this joy-sucking leech of a picture has invaded your otherwise harmoniously tiled screen. You try to quickly click into the (evil) user who pinned it, unfollow them, and then return to your feed; but by the time you take those steps and refresh the page your Pin-flow has been interrupted and you just can’t achieve the same state of euphoria. It’s official – you’ve left Pinterest paradise.

And we’ve all been there – stuck wondering how and why you ever followed the person who committed this abominable act. How could you have been so naive? Perhaps they once pinned something so amazing – it didn’t occur to you to check in on the rest of their boards – you just blindly followed them after seeing that one amazing pin. Maybe you followed this user when you first signed up for Pinterest and you were thirsty for content – your standards were so much lower then – you hadn’t yet learnt proper curation and discipline in following.

Don’t get too down on yourself – we were all once new to Pinterest. We were more forgiving of lower-quality content. Our tastes hadn’t matured to the level at which they now sit.

And if you followed so many regrettable users that your Pinterest feed is beyond saving – go unfollow every single user. Wipe your slate completely clean. It will take time to build back up – but it will be worth it.

Though I was just visiting SF for work, I was able to spend a few hours catching up with the lovely Amanda of Fashionablee Me - a necessity while I was in such close quarters with her! If you’ve never checked out her fashion blog – do your self a favor and head there now. Oh, and did I mention she’s responsible for much of the marketing over at Poshmark? Yea – Amanda has got it going on (with a side of sass – a favorite friend trait).

If you’ve never had a chance to explore San Francisco – put that on your list of things to do. And bring layers, because just like Seattle and my emotions, the weather tends to be a bit unpredictable!

My recent obsession with Jane Birkin and 60s glam is only intensifying as summer draws near. Her wispy bangs, thick lower lashes and pinched-rosy cheeks are beautiful, enviable qualities that I can only hope to emulate in the coming months. I’ll spend hours in the mirror trying to achieve the look that comes nearly natural to Jane. And I can’t wait for every minute of my Jane-ridden desire to push me into a carefree, poetic season of music festivals and love at first sights.
