Bright pants, oxblood shoes, stripes, studs and chambray…and I realize I’ve tried almost every recent fashion trend in this one outfit. And somehow it all comes together.
I don’t want to spend too much time talking about clothes in this post – so here are my outfit details: J.Crew Chambray Shirt, Forever21 Striped Sweater, GAP Coral Skinny Jeans, Zara Oxblood Pumps, Nordstrom BP Studded Skull Clutch, Marrin Costello & U.O. Jewels.
Instead – I’d like to talk about pretty. And feeling pretty. Because although in this outfit I felt oh so pretty – I don’t always feel that way. And I know that most girls don’t feel pretty 100% of the time, which is a unfortunate side-effect of the media-driven society we love and loathe.
Recently I was having a conversation with a good friend, who for whatever reason, felt like she didn’t look pretty this particular night. The funny thing is, just the night before, she felt incredibly attractive and confident. And while her clothes and hair may have been different on this night, she essentially looked the same. So the only thing that had really changed was the perception of herself. This shift in the way we perceive ourselves is common amongst my friends (and myself) – when the reality is that you look just as beautiful as you felt the other night. The clothes you wear may help instill confidence, especially if you are constantly receiving compliments on the way you dress. Your hair and make-up being all done-up can also add a pep to your step. But to the outside world – strangers at bars, fellow coffee-shop inhabitants, the dance floor at a club – you look like YOU. And you can’t change that. What you CAN change and what you do have control over is your confidence and attitude – this is what really draws people in, beyond a flip of hair and more than the bat of your eyelashes.
So my advice to anyone who is about to head out of the door but feels un-pretty: Think back to the last time you felt gorgeous, hot, beautiful or pretty – and remember that you look that like ALL THE TIME. Even right now. You are smoking hot!
xoxo

Wonderful look and great message. We are always beautiful. It’s funny how clothing and perceptions can chance the way we feel. Being aware of that is the first step. I like your idea about thinking back to th elast time you felt hot.
Oh, and the skull clasp on that clutch is amazing!

One, you happen to be VERY pretty. Girls/women are funny- they base their description on emotions, and facts are facts- hormones are hormones. When I PMS, I always have this down on yourself feeling- and it’s not the hair or the way a dress fits- so I’ve learn to ignore it at this point. I like the idea that it doesn’t matter if we’re pretty or not, it maybe a bonus in life, but not necessary. Said by someone who loves to look at pretty people, but let’s face it, I’d rather hang out with nice and smart ones.
You look great- love the color combo on this one- brilliant spring look, Natasha!
