A Summer Party

It’s summer party week on my blog! As the summer is coming to it’s final homestretch – it’s your last chance to get your closest friends together and have good food, strong drinks & big laughs.

I’ve been moved into my apartment for almost one year now – but I haven’t hosted one girls night in. Of course I’ve had people over – but nothing planned, nothing with a Facebook invite. And I’ve always wanted to…I even started a party inspiration board on Pinterest . But I always had some excuse…work was too busy, I had to go to they gym, my place wasn’t tidy enough…and the list goes on. So I just created an invite and sent it out – locking myself in with no excuses!

I’m glad I did. The party was a smashing success! But it didn’t go off without a hitch…I considered re-naming this blog post to “How to throw a party in 2 hours” due to some last minute hustling (including going to the grocery store for everything 2 hours before the party was set to start!). But we all know a little drama is always fun, right?

Here’s what was on my menu for the party:

Drinks:

Blueberry Lemonade Vodka Cocktails in Mason Jars

Assorted White Wine

Food:

Bruschetta

Chips & Salsa

Crackers & Cheese

Pesto Gnocci Bites

Sweet Potato Fries

Thai Fried Quinoa

Turkey Burger Pops

I’ll be posting recipes for some of these items later this week – look out for them!

My good friend Heather crafted some amazing pennant flags (see pics below) in alternating colors with gold accents…which really brought everything together. I opened up my apartment doors and ended having an amazing night. For the first hour I was running around, finishing up food and making sure everyone had a drink in their hand – but after I was able to relax, the party really got started.

Another friend of mine, Andrea, taught us all a drinking game that we’ve named “The Finger Game.” It’s hard to explain but I’ll try: Everyone puts their finger on a glass half full with a drink. In clockwise order, one person shouts out a number and simultaneously, everyone decides if they will keep their finger on the glass or remove it (quickly). After everyone has removed or kept their fingers on the glass, if the number of remaining fingers matches the number the person has shouted out, that person is out (which is good). You keep doing this with whoever is in (clockwise) and eventually, there will only be one person remaining (who couldn’t get their number to match the fingers). This person has to drink the glass in the middle. And that’s the game!

There are tons of pictures from the party, I’ve selected my favorites below. Feel free to reblog or pin to Pinterest any of the pictures below – and happy summer partying!
